    i always thought that this scene was a part of her dream, and the part she was reading actually revealed a repressed memory of abuse from her life, which would in a psychological way explain why it's revealed that she's a psychopath in the end.

    She deserved an oscar for this scene but, after all, Lynch didn't won anything for this movie too.
    The Oscars are cool, but I can't believe that pictures like "Shakespeare in love" had win a lot of oscars and people like Lynch or Kubrick nothing. It's meaningless.
